- Discomfort After Cleaning
- If children are not used to brushing their gums and flossing on a daily basis, routine cleanings at the dental office can be uncomfortable.
- Dr. Owens recommends taking Children's Motrin or Children's Tylenol. *If your child's gums are inflamed, have your child take Children's Motrin or Children's Tylenol 1 hour before bed, wait 30 minutes then go in and brush the gum tissue & floss real good. If he/she will do this for one week, the gum tissue will tighten up and shrink down and it will no longer hurt when they brush their gums & floss.

- Care of Sealants
- To prevent breakage of a sealant, we recommend that patients do not eat sticky or hard candy and do not chew on ice.

-
- Care of the Mouth After Local Anesthetic
- If treatment was done on the lower part of your child's mouth, the tongue, cheek, lip and teeth will be numb or asleep.
-
- If treatment was done on the upper part or your child's mouth, the lip, cheek and teeth will be numb or asleep.
-
- WARNING: Please make sure that your child does not bite, scratch, or suck on their cheek, lip, or face. If they do, once the numbness wears off these areas will be extremely sore.

- Care After Extractions
-
- Once the tooth is taken out, your child will have gauze in their mouth. They are to put firm pressure on the gauze for 10-15 minutes. Before taking the gauze out, make sure it is completely saturated. If the bleeding has stopped, you can leave the gauze out of the mouth. If the extraction site is still bleeding, place more gauze in the mouth and put firm pressure on the gauze for another 10-15 minutes.

- NOTE: If bleeding does not stop, please contact our office immediately.
